Breastfeeding comes with a lot of unexpected moments — like realizing how much milk you lose from your non-nursing side! That’s where milk collection cups come in.
Milk collection cups are simple, hands-free tools designed to collect leaking milk during nursing, pumping, or letdowns. They fit discreetly inside your bra, saving precious drops that would otherwise be lost to a nursing pad.
Here’s how to use them:
- Clean your cups first.
Before your first use, and after each use, wash your milk collection cups with warm soapy water and let them air dry. - Insert the cup before feeding or pumping.
Place the collection cup inside your bra on the opposite side of the breast you’re nursing or pumping from. Make sure the opening is centered over your nipple. - Let it do its job.
As you nurse or pump, the cup will catch milk from your letdown — hands-free, no extra effort needed. - Transfer the milk.
Once you’re done, carefully remove the cup (holding it upright) and pour the collected milk into a clean storage container or bottle. - Store safely.
Refrigerate or freeze the milk according to milk storage guidelines.
Pro Tip:
Use a collection cup during morning feedings when your supply tends to be strongest, or if you notice heavy letdowns.
